What makes a good W/Mo?
Hi,
Been playing the game for about a month now, I've reached lvl 18 and Bloodstone Fen and I've noted that it's getting harder to get a decent group together. Before I criticise others though, I thought I'd take advice on my own gaming.
I play a W/Mo (I know...it seemed like a good choice for a newbie) and I wonder what other players out there think a good W/Mo should do?
I try not to aggro excessive numbers of enemies, I tend to play a blocking role where I attack the creatures that are trying to attack the Ele/Mes/Monks at the back, or alternatively I'll push forward and attack the main dude just to draw heat from other players or eliminate the main threat.
Anyone out there got any thoughts?

It has many useful info. on what is expected from a warrior. Who knows, you may already be doing what most non-warrior players would want from a warrior.

Well. Its sounds like your doing your Warrior role nicely. Unfortunatly as you progress its harder and harder to get a W/Mo into a group that isnt already made up of 5+ Warriors. When you hit Ring Of Fire you'll never get into a group :P And if you do within your 10th try well done to you.
There isnt much more you can do. As W/Mo's are made widely through the game just to farm places. So, people who dont know how to play the role of a warrior because they are better suited to an Ele will try anyway just because W/Mo's are good farming tools. So, you end up with one think W/Mo who cant play his role properly and all he wants to do is go farming. Its getting the same with Monks. They join a group and then apparently go "AFK" all beause they just want an easy ride through the game to make another shitty SHEEP!! (55hp monk).
Just try to grin and bare it. And play the game the way you want. You'll pick up a group sooner or later

You are doing the right things as a warrior. Keep it up. As to getting into a group, yes it will get harder and harder b/c the group are going to fit the common cookie-cutter build once you get to the desert and beyond. The build calls for 1 or 2 warriors most of the time. And sense there is a surplus of warriors out there, it will be quite difficult to find a group.
There are a few things you can do about this though. You can take henchies, most of the time, they are better than the PUGs (Pick up groups) that you will run into. I personaly don't like playing with henchies b/c I find it boring, so I start my own group. When your starting your group, take your time forming it and make sure people's builds are compatable (you don't want two minion masters in one group). That route may seem a little bit challenging since you have only been playing for a month or so. A third thing you could do is join a guild and do the mission with them. That usualy is the best route to go, it is fun, people won't quit on you, and you most likely will get the mission done first try.
Good luck,
-Sicarius

I always hesitated creating my warrior because I was new and it seemed like the warrior is always the initiator and lead the way through the missions. I wasn't familiar enough with them to take that leadership role. Or course now I know differently, but some things I have picked up being on both ends of it:
1. Don't yell at the team (this is common sense for anyone of any profession.)
2. Don't yell at the monk to res you the instant you die or call for heals all the time.
3. Don't over aggro. Using a bow to pull is a nice thing if you are the one to do it.
4. Wait, wait, wait. After a long battle ask for an energy check. Nothing worse than a Weeeeeeorriar Jenkins!
5. Don't let yourself get pulled by the enemy, they do that. Don't be afraid to back off once engaged or switch targets.
6. Know the priority of creatures to kill.
Sounds like you are doing just fine so far. Don't worry about what people say about you or your build. If they seem to be honestly trying to offer constructive advice, don't get defensive.

Just figure out what role you want to play skills-wise and advertise it to get in a group. I just finished the game with a W/Mo. I'd hop into an area and clue them in that I was a "Disruption/Stance tank packing Rebirth" and get a group pretty quickly all the way through the Ring of Fire.
Also, don't be afraid to let people know that you're only "half as retarded as most wammos." That seems to work sometimes, too.

hehehe how about this , in groups a good warrior monk donates his 2 pips of regen towards enchantments that you put on a monk eg. succor , balthzars spirit , mending , wacthful spirit + mending hehe , well a good w/mo shouldn't keep his monk side to himelf and should have rebirth at all times in pve (mission and quests that is)

The most important thing as I play Mo/W and W/Mo is to listen to your castors especially your monk. This is the problem I deal with when playing Monk when I am out of enrgy how can I heal myself. The only skill you really require from your monk side are mend ailment and a hard res.The rest being Warrior and yes no mending.Take your time as well don't rush it.

you seem to be remembering one of the most important things for a tank....."squishy" targets really do need someone to cover for them. sounds like you are one of the rare tanks who are good to have on a team

thanks
Thanks guys...I am feeling a lot more confident that I am doing the right things...
as a note...I always have Restore Life, Healing Breeze and Heal Signet on my bar. Just so I can reduce the monks workload where possible.

It's been a long time since I pushed my w/mo through the game, but you will have trouble finding groups at Thunderhead and beyond. I found one trick that helped was to advertise that I "followed orders well". It shows people that you acknowledge your newness to the area and that you are willing to listen to people who have done it before.
Since, as many people posted here, parties DO work better with a tank, people who do want to do the mission should be attracted to one who is aware of some of the problems typical to the breed.

Yes, u got the rite concpet
u should block enemies
but your approach is wrong,
1. When u are aggroing, nobody should be in your aggro bubble
2. once u aggroed, u should NOT move, even some mobs leaked and attack casters, if u moved, u LOSE aggro and mobs attacking u will rape ur casters

warriors can be great fun to play, apart from the nooby connotations, but as one person i was with once put it, he was a "damage dealing melee fighter" rathern than a "remote controlled block of titanium". I found it was much easier to be an awesome warrior after completing the game on my monk, as i could understand what things were like from the 'squishy target' point of view
